Welcome to Hayesfield Girls’ School Council
At Hayesfield we feel it is extremely important that the views of all students in the school are represented and heard. This is why every year the students elect two school council representatives from every year group to form the school council. Lead by our Head Girl, the student council representatives meet weekly to discuss improvements the students would like to introduce to their school…. we call this the “Student Voice”.
Last year the student council, led by the Head Girl, consulted all the students in the school about Hayesfield’s school image. The students came up with so many wonderful ideas from the colours they liked, to the style of jumper, blazer and whether or not they would like to wear a tie!
From consulting students and staff, proposing designs, voting on favourite ideas, costings, production timings and the subsequent need to change our image in our brochures and website – the student council were at the heart of the change. We now have a new uniform designed by the girls for the girls and worn with pride!
A new name “Hayesfield Girls’ School”
and a new motto “ Achieving Ambitions”
This year the newly elected school council has a new main project. The school council would like to consult the school community about the possibility of introducing a House System at Hayesfield to give students a strong sense of identity, not just belonging to the school, but as part of a team. The consultation process has already started. Our Head Girl this year, Miranda Cope, and the school council representatives are busy talking to all students and staff in year assemblies to get everyone to think about possible House Names. There will also be a consultation with parents next term. Watch this space for more news…….
